The landscape

Two markets. Reporting is mandatory in both.

Australia and India took different routes to the same place: sustainability data that is required by a regulator, comparable between companies, and checked by an independent assurer. We work inside both regimes.

Australia

AASB S2, under the Corporations Act

  • Phased in by sizeGroup 1 has reported since January 2025. Group 2 started with financial years from 1 July 2026. Group 3 follows from 1 July 2027.
  • NGER reporters are in scopeIf you report under NGER, you are captured whatever your revenue or headcount.
  • What gets disclosedGovernance, strategy, risk management, and metrics and targets, including Scope 1 and 2 emissions from year one and Scope 3 from year two.
  • Assurance is phasing inLimited assurance at first, building towards reasonable assurance over the whole climate statement.

India

BRSR and BRSR Core, under SEBI

  • The top 1,000 listed companies reportBRSR has been mandatory for the 1,000 largest listed entities by market capitalisation since FY 2022-23.
  • BRSR Core now reaches all of themFrom FY 2026-27, every top-1,000 company needs independent assessment or assurance of its BRSR Core indicators.
  • Suppliers get pulled inListed customers are asking value chain partners for emissions and ESG data, whether or not those partners are listed themselves.
  • Exporters face CBAMCompanies selling steel, aluminium, cement and other covered goods into the EU need verified embedded-emissions data.

Our story

Why Vasava.

Vasava is a name for Indra, the Vedic deity of storms, rain and natural order.

We chose it because climate reporting is, underneath the paragraphs and tables, about how a business stands in relation to weather it cannot control. The work is to make that relationship visible, measured, and honest.

The practice began in Brisbane. It now works from Bengaluru as well, which brings the name back to where it came from.
